GPS Terrible

Can anyone assist in diagnosing whether I have a faulty Edge 25. I have given up my Forerunner 205 as I wanted a dedicated cycling gadget to track and log my miles. The Garmin Edge 25 looked like the ideal starter for me. However, the plotting of where I have been is terrible, it shows I have been all over the show and then loses the signal altogether. I can ride 15 miles audit stops after 1.5 miles and then starts again. I have tried switching the GLONASS on and off but with no real difference. Yesterday, I though I would rid on a few major roads and did 10+ miles, yet it shows me on streets off the main road, sometimes a quarter of a mile off track.

Any help or advice much appreciated.

It sounds like a dodgy unit.

I only turn on GLONASS if I am going to be riding through heavily tree covered areas. Even then, I still find that the standard GPS does a pretty good job.

Have you got a clear view of the sky where you're riding?
  • Are you getting a good satellite lock before you start?
  • Thanks for the replies. Yes, I ensure its switched on a good few minutes before I set off and have a full set of bars on the signal strength.

In terms of the trees, there are admittadley quite a few on the route I often take and it does appear to lose where I have been. However, my concern was last Sunday when I went on the main roads and did a full 15 miles and it showed me off course the majority of the way. I used to own a Forerunner 205 which was so precise I couldn't nip into a bush when caught short without it documenting it on the map. I have spoken to Garmin who have offered to replace it, so I just want to make sure its not just me and that it perhaps does have some fault on it.
