Edge 25 - speed/cadence sensor issues (BONTRAGER INTERCHANGE DIGITAL COMBO SENSOR)

Hi everyone this is my first time posting here and I would like to raise the following 2 points about using a speed/cadence sensor with the Garmin Edge 25:

Setup
Garmin Edge 25 Firmware: 3.30 - which ironed out the issue of using the speed sensor when outdoors
ANT+ Speed/Cadence Sensor: Bontrager Interchange Digital Combo Sensor - chose this as its an all in one unit and does the job for both indoors/outdoors

First issue is if the battery dies on the speed/cadence sensor the stats read 0.0kmh speed even though you are moving and the GPS does not kick in - its a pain as you need to stop and then disable the sensor (on the Garmin) and save the ride and start a new one - hardly ideal if you are in the middle of a segment - this is a flaw that could do with ironing out.

Secondly when I stop in the middle of a segment for a coffee break or otherwise I noted that the time elapsed is actually being added to a strava segment which is not very good in my opinion. I use auto-pause so maybe this is the issue? Again I think this is something that should be looked into - I can provide ride data if need be.

I understand Garmin that you may not wish to comment on the use of third party products but we should be able to as consumers pick what works best for our needs/setups.
  • On your second issue, that is the way Strava works. It does not use the timing data provide by the Edge, but uses the GPS position data to determine your segment times. It looks at the time you enter the segment and the time you exit the segment. If you stop in the segment then that time will get added. It works this way to stop people gaming the system, but stopping and resting partway thorough a segment and then restarting.

That makes sense and like I said it wasn't a major issue. The first issue is more crucial and would like to understand if Garmin will work to resolve this.

Thanks for your feedback - much appreciated ;-)

first ride out, possible loss speed signal. Edge 25 threw a wobbly!

New combo sensor (bontrager), Garmin seem to lose signal though seems bumpy road may have misaligned speed sensor.

Should the Garmin device rely on GPS/speed sensor when either drop out? Not conk out when one drops out surely?
