Problem with getting a GPS signal

Ensure you're not moving until you have a lock, if you are moving it will take longer. Standing still you should get a lock in much less then the time you quote.

Good advice, but I'm always standing still while trying to get a lock. So that shouldn't be the problem. Thanks for your reply all the same :)

Hmmm, then it's something else. Have you got a clear view of the sky when you do so? Other thing that will increase the time to first lock is if you switched it off at a different location to where you switch it on?

Yes, clear skies all around for the last few days :) And I always turn it on on the same location as it has been turned off. Not that I deliberately did that, but in retrospect I aways did. Strange thing is that I haven't changed my way of using the device but, as mentioned before, do experience a negative change in gps signal locking.

Very strange then. I'd try a master reset to see if that restores normal operation. If not I'd speak to Garmin and get a replacement since 4 to 5 minutes getting a lock isn't normal.

I'm assuming here you haven't updated your software recently? If you have then a master reset should cure the issue you're seeing. After a master reset leave the GPS with a clear view of the sky for 15 minutes or so to ensure it is able to redownload the necessary data from the satellites.

I did the master reset and went outside tot test it. First time it took a while but after that it got a really quick fix. After turning it off and on again it aslo got a really quick fix. Tomorrow I'll know more since I did experience the problem only once a day (the first time in the morning).

I do have one question regarding your point about turning the device on on another place then where I turn it off. I have the tendency to turn the device on in my home hallway or office hallway and wait for a signal when I'm standing still outside. It occurred to me that it maybe is wrong practice to do that. Do you have any experience with this? Should I wait with turning my device on until I'm outside? I seem to remember to do this (turning on inside, waiting for signal outside) since I've first got it but don't know fur sure any more.

I'd certainly wait until you're outside, yes.

Later in the day yesterday and this morning I had no issues whatsoever. Turning the device on when outside and/or the master reset have worked like a charm!
