So the battery is dead. I had the same issue with my brand new unit purchased from official reseller (in Poland) a few days ago. I've also tested it with usb power meter, and it won't even start to charge…
I purchased it in 2018 and was working like a charm, but dug it out after one year and battery is dead as you describe. Tried charging overnight from the wall and on the computer. Seems the battery quality…
So the battery is dead. I had the same issue with my brand new unit purchased from official reseller (in Poland) a few days ago. I've also tested it with usb power meter, and it won't even start to charge, power consumption about 10mA, just enough to power up the device.
The unit was replaced to the new one the next day.
You can do one extra test. Plug it up. When the Garmin logo appears, hold lap button (lower left) till service menu shows up. Most likely Battery values will be "4.35 100" so that means all power is delivered by cable not from battery.
