Question about the Garmin Edge 130

Hello Cycling enthusiast,

I have a question regardling the Garmin Edge series cycling computers. I ride a MTB at work and I also ride a Road bike. I typically use my smart phone to track my road rides with Strava. I was looking at getting a cycling computer because I don't want to have my phone running strava ALL DAY at work. So I need a cycling computer that i can use on booth the Road Bike and the MTB, easily. My buddy has a Garmin Edge 510 ( I think ) and he can just create a different user profile for each of his bikes. Does anyone know if the Garmin Edge 130 has this feature also?

  • I'm not familiar with all feature Edge 510 has. So I don't see a point of having different profiles on Edge 130.
There is use user customisable layout of different screens, so if you use different data on screen for road and MTB you'll have both setup and switch between them during riding (eg. I have 3 screens and switch between them depending on if I do time trial, casual ride or MTB because for MTB I don't  need to see power and lap time).

Other than that (setting type of ride you did and bicycle you rode) is set all after the ride is finished either in your garmin or in gamin app.(strava if desired).

  • The short answer is that the 130 does not support having different activity profiles. The first unit in the Edge series that does is the 5xx series.

I own a Edge 130 for 2 years now. I don't recommend it. The software doesn't worth a penny. The only good thing is the screen.

Trying to find an excuse to buy a different computer.

  • Maybe a Bryton Rider 420 ?
Same screen, "same" functions, better price, better battery life.

Might be an option. Never heard about this brand but if does what it says on the tin... it's a no brainer

You need to consider that you will be outside the Garmin ecosystem - if it's relevant to you

  • There is life without Garmin ;)
Been using Garmin for 18 years, started with a 2nd hand GPS12 in 2002.
But the Edge 130 might very well be the last Garmin I've bought.
