Smart notifications don't work

Any idea why smart notifications wouldn't work? The only ones I get are for phone calls. On my Vivoactive HR, I get them for everything I have configured - calendar, gmail, slack, google voice. That tells me I have the connect mobile app configured properly and that the problem is not with my phone (samsung galaxy s7). Is it working for anyone else?

I have succesfully received txt/phone notifications from my phone to the 130. Although it seems impossible to read them mid-ride. I don't think anything other than txt/phone call notifications are supported.
  • Yes, I have the same issue. I would like to recieve facebook Messenger and WhatsApp messages, but it does not work. I get only phone calls and text messeges (Galaxy S7). Local Garmin store told me that it is from security reasons, to not to disturb you during the ride. Other Garming Edges also get only phone calls and text. I realy miss this function since I use it regularly on my Fenix3.
  • I can confirm it works as well. As distinct from the 1000 is has only a single BT entry (1000 has BT and BLE). So you may like to check it there. Simple called Edge 130.
The notification usually should work without having GC app running. But you may like to check with it it properly connects
  • That is Garmin limitation as usual. You will only be able to receive SMS. But that is the same for Wahoo. The Problem is simple either Garmin needs to use an API for all the apps to integrate the messages, or the Messenger vendors would need an API for Garmin to forward the messages. As Garmin uses notification for emergency they need to integrate std phone functionality anyway. So they show you the messages. So for which messenger Garmin should decide to integrate? Don't know if other like Suunto, Polar did already. Wahoo did not, same as Garmin.
  • Yes, but why it is possible to receive Messenger or WhatsApp messages on Fenix 3 and other watches (even during cycling activity) and not on Edge (130)?
  • Ok - got you. Was not aware this possible on some watches. Even the software is fairly the same for all devices Garmin keeps each device separate. That is strategy. I.e. with an Edge 1000 you could perfectly do Geo-Caching, but you can't.
To be honest - for me it is ok. in a car people needs to be forced by penalty not use their cellphone, you can't rely on their responsibility. But so far I am pretty sure it is not real Garmins intention to make biking more save, it is more to sell watches in addition.
