Big fat stem - how to install the edge mount

How do i install the mount over a fat stem.......I've got a Giant Defy SL2 - it's got that humongous fat carbon stem - the rubber bands can hardly go over the stem to reach the ends of the mount to be attached...........it feels like i'll be tearing the rubber bands if i force it.........any suggestions?

You could try joining bands together to maker longer bands.

Some hardware stores sell neoprene rubber bands of various sizing.

Put it on the bars rather than the stem or an "out front" mount (you can usually pick up SRAM ones cheaply on eBay)
