Tacx smart flow not calibrating properly with Garmin 1030.

I have been able to do so with Tacx Training app through my phone but it is impossible to do it with my 1030. Unfortunately, I cannot use so any route or training workouts.
Practically, the resistance on Tacx while connected to the 1030 is massive but get back to normal once I am connecting it to my phone

  • Calabration of the Tacx Flow is a frequently reported “pain in the neck”!

What occurs when you attempt calibration with the 1030? With my 530 I selected Indoor Trainer and Calibration, pedal up to the required speed, let it spin down and get “calibration Successful” message, that’s it!

I have a Flow and always (mostly) could never calibrate with the iPhone Tacx Training App (too loose, too loose, too…..) but it calibrated just fine, first time, every time, never a problem, with the 530. When I spoke to Tacx / Garmin support they said the Flow could be calibrated with “either the app or the Edge” and it was not necessary to do it with both, they referenced this support document https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=sdgdMoFqDn06eLSYFrnrg5

They said that during the calibration a  parameter was calculated and written to the Flow and this could be read and used by either device or in fact other apps like Zwift etc.

Also, like you, my impression was that the resistance “seemed” less when the Flow was controlled by the training app rather than the Edge where it felt heavier?

I would contact Garmin / Tacx support as they should be the experts.

Considering the price the Flow has been a good experience for me, I hope you get your issues sorted, good luck.

PS Conversely, in the last few months I have “upgraded”(?) both devices to a Tacx Flux S and an Edge 1040. With these the calibration with the 1040 is a problem while the iPhone Tacx Training App just works without drama. If trying with the 1040 the resistance increases significantly as I approach the 32kph , so much so that it just can’t get past 30 but the app just does it. So I have calibrated with the app and ignore the calibration on the 1040. I in fact mostly use the 1040 for indoor following courses, controlled by the 1040 despite having been calibrated with the App but no problems.

That is exactly what is happening to me. I contacted previously Garmin support and they suggested to use the app to calibrate. What did you do?
