Garmin Edge 1030 - Please  disable Virtual Partner

From what I have reviewed on the forums I am not the only user who does not like to see the Virtual Partner on the map while navigating.

I'd rather see the whole map than that feature taking up the screen.

Please, Garmin engineers, update the software with this simple function:
Virtual partner: Yes
Virtual partner: No

Surely there are other users with the same opinion as mine.
Thank you for your attention.
Regards

  • Would be a lot easier and more universal if the “speed” field in the Course summary could be edited directly on the edge device itself

The VP doesn't work that way.

The point of the VP is to be able to ride against yourself from a recording of your previous ride.

This means the speed (point to point) can vary.

The VP works by determining the speed based on the distance between points and the difference in the track points.

The timestamps are required. Since what you get from route planners isn't a real ride (with real timestamps), the planners use an average speed to generate the timestamps.

Route planners should let you specify the average speed used to generate the fake timestamps.

RWGPS, for some unknown reason, doesn't. And the timestamps RWGPS produces are wacky. There's a large variation in the speeds.

Garmin Connect lets you change the speed used for courses. The default appears to be 15.5 mph. The speed still is varied point-to-point. There doesn't seem to be any pattern in the variation (it's not lower for uphills and faster for downhills, for instance).

does not work if course was loaded via NewFiles / usb cable

This isn't correct. The device uses the timestamps in the file (put in NewFiles). Otherwise, it would defeat the basic purpose of the VP (riding against yourself) and it would have to use some average speed (which would be useless because there's no place to change it).

  • I plan course in Komoot, it is linked to garmin so automatically loads into connect. As I said I create duplicate in connect then edit speed and rename. I delete the course from Komoot. This is the only way that I have hidden the VP arrow, still hoping that Garmin listens to its users and make it an option. Don’t hold your breadth on it as all their focus will be on the 1040’s etc
