¿Calibration Problem? with Giant Power Pro and Garmin Edge 1030

Hi! In the last few weeks I have observed that the power balance between left and right legs has been growing more and more with my Giant Power Pro powermeter linked woth my Garmin Edge 1030. As example, I have a power balance almost perfect over the last three years measured with 3 diferentes power meters (Giant Power Pro, Quarq and Saris H3) but today I've been constantly over a 55%/45% L/R.

I've tried to calibrate the power meter many times with the right arm of the crankset aligned with the 6 o'clock, with the 12 o'clock.., even trying with the 3 o'clock.., but the result has been the same...

I did a test few days ago with my Saris H3 smart trainer in order to compare the data from the Saris H3 synced with the Garmin 1030 and the data from the Power Pro synced with the Ride Link app of Giant. The data was totally ok since the Giant app recorded the same exact total power and the same power balance 50%/50%.

Any idea? Why the Power Pro is not calibrating correctly with the Garmin Edge 1030?  Of course the Power Pro powermeter and Garmin Edge 1030 are updated... Any idea?

Thank you in avance!

  • I am in the process of sending my Power Pro meter back to the bike store to have an analysis completed on it. I went out for a ride on Sunday and everything was fine but since Monday the Power meter keeps dropping out and i get a 100% on the left an 0% on the right when pedalling and intermittent power readings. I updated the firmware on the ride link app to the latest version but i cannot calibrate the power meter. It initially finds the power meter but then fails to register a calibration. I have uninstalled everything, Di2, Speed sensor, Power Meter and HRM from my 1030 but the power meter is the only issue. I am fully updated on all firmware so i am at a loss to be honest. I'll comment back here once i have had the diagnostics completed. My only issue is that i am 2 months outside of the 2 year warranty on the power meter so i hope Giant will still honour this if it needs replacing.

  • Fantastic article. Excellent reading material. I like reading such lovely articles. retro bowl Thanks! continue to rock

  • All sorted.

The local bike store reset the power meter because the right side wasn't talking to the left side. They ran a diagnostic on both crank arms, upgraded the firmware and did a test. I have now fitted the power meter back on my bike and it is working fine. I have calibrated it on both ridelink and my edge 1030 and was recognised by both.

May be worth having a diagnostic completed on yours.
