When I started a saved route yesterday the map worked but no directions and no arrows on the screen to show direction of the route. Does anyone have any idea why?

I started a saved route on my Garmin 1030 plus yesterday but the directions didn’t work. The map was visible but no directions on it or arrows on the route. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas why it didn’t work. I just had to guess my way round.

  • Did you see the "purple" line? Where you near the start?

If you have "turn guidance" (the big white arrows), you'll see a list of turns when you tap on the text on the top of the map screen.

Where did you get the route?

  • Hi I was a few hundred yards to start so I clicked navigate to start. Got there and it said found route but then didn’t track route. I could see a dark purple line for all routes but not specifically the one I had selected and no white arrows on the road. Any ideas?

    ?

The Edges display one purple line (for the active course).

If you don't see a purple line for the course you want, that course isn't loaded.

If you are close to the start (and know how to get there), you don't really need to select "navigate to start".

I think the 1030 will continue the course once you reach the start. (The older units required you to reload thee course once you reached the start.

If you are having an issue with a course, you should provide a link to it.

  • Did you try to start the route again during your ride? You can start a route anytime during a ride.

The route might have been ended if you came too close to the end point.

  • If the "reload the route" option doesn't work, one time all I was getting was breadcrumb routing.  No turns or road names.  Reloading the maps in GC solved the problem.

ETA:  And to clarify, I am talking about reloading the entire regional map, not just the route.

  • Hi no I didn't try to restart it as was worried I would lose my ride. Shortly after I started a returned to the start to see if it would pick it up. It did briefly but then didn't start routing

  • How do you do that? I am still quite new to the Garmin 1030 plus and getting used to it.

  • I had a blue line showing the route I had already taken

  • Check, if „turn guidance“ is enabled:

homescreen - navigation - courses - saved courses - right bottom 3-line button:
    enable „turn guidance“

  • A minor point, this is the Garmin 1030 forum and the is also a 1030 Plus forum, makes no practical difference as they both and the 830 share the same software and user interface but for future questions perhaps.

On your primary point have a look at some videos at https://www.youtube.com/c/VELOGPSTHEINNERTUBE/featured they are very instructive for newer users. They don't have videos directly on the 1030 Plus but those about the 1030 or 830 will be just as good for you regarding data screen setups , navigation and other features, good luck,
