Constantly Beeping

In Nav mode, my 1030 beeps every few meters so, apart from it being irritating, I'm missing turn points. The beeps aren't accompanied by any messages. I used Garmin's course creator to build and download the routes. It's as if it's beeping at way points every 5 meters or so.

  • Do you see a map or only your route.

Something similar I have, when I have not selected a map (for example: I have the map for the Alpes active, but I'm making a trip in the Netherlands),

As soon as I have the correct map selected, the beeping stops.

  • Provide more details on the course you are using, how you created it and how you transferred it to the Edge. When it beeps you are on-course or off-course ? Your issue is not a bug with the device but something wrong with how you created or using the course.

  • Thanks for your feedback, Donald. I suspect some corruption so Ive deleted the two offending courses and recreated them. Let’s see what happens next time out. At least one of them was OK for some time before going like this.

  • Thanks for replying, Martin. At least one of them worked fine for some time before doing this so it appears something other than poor creation caused this.

  • The reason for my question is that depending how you create the course and how you transfer it, different things can happen. For example saving a FIT file and transferring by hand will not produce the same thing as using the "Transferring to Device" function despite both methods transferring a FIT file. If you say nothing about how you do things nobody will be able to help you. Take the time to provide useful information, it's the least you can do to be helped out.

  • Tried again with newly created MTB course.  I see a map - used Course Creator with Google Maps selected; snapped to bridleways and ‘transferred to device’ to complete. It’s difficult to keep looking at the screen when riding off road but it seems to be beeping for [very] regular points. Even when I’m on a straight section, it beeps fairly often without displaying any messages. I’ve seen in another thread that switching off Garmin’s base map may help so I’ll try that next time out.

  • Perhaps the beeping is due to using Google maps for course creation and the 1030 uses OSM maps. Try using OSM maps for course creation.

  • I suggest that under Navigation Courses, turn off "Turn by Turn" as well as "Off Course Alerts". These options are available just before you load the course and press ride, in the option menu. With these two off the Edge will not compute a TBT route (pink line) thus not displaying the "Calculating...%"at the beginning,  but will still display the course (magenta line) and plot your ride (blue line). Essentially in that configuration you get no navigation assistance but still see your course line. TBT guidance is really not useful for MTB riding anyway, just looking at the map should be enough.
