Edge 1030 - Changing profiles on startup is very slow

Not sure when this started, probably a long time ago but seems to be getting worse.

When I wake the Edge 1030 from sleep, everything is good unless I want to switch profile.  It's winter so I am constantly switching between my ROAD and INDOOR profiles.

The EDGE is just not responsive to touching the arrow to change profile, it seems to take an age.  It occasionally crashes also when switching profiles.

Any ideas?

  • I am also experiencing this with my Garmin 1030. Whether it's a start up or from sleep, then changing profiles is a press and see what happens game! I've not experienced any crashing of the unit in this regard.

  • When the Edge starts it processes the files in the directory/folder X:\Garmin\NewFiles. You will see a set of up and down arrows in the top left corner of the screen when this occurs. I recognize your problem. I always wait until the Edge has stopt processing the files.
Sometimes 0 byte *.tmp are created in X:\Garmin\NewFiles. The device can not process them.
You can remove these to speed up the startup proces of the Edge.

  • Thank you. I did as you instructed. When I restarted my unit I thought I'd bricked it as it took an age to get to the home screen. Anyhow, it did get there in the end. Now my unit is acting much better than it was when I first reported my issue. Thank you for the advice.
