Di2 battery indication

I had used Di2 battery indication to show e-bike battery level, as I use an Di2 rear derailleur. And it works fine. After firmware version 13 which shows a graphical bar (same as Shimano's display) this version became useless. I did downgrade to previous version. Garmin, please, implement a graphical/numerical option or field.

  • I fully agree that the new Di2 battery indication is not an improvement for all who only have one battery.

I tried to make a CIQ datafield, but because Shimano is using a private ANT protocol this is only possible for those who have the private key, which I have not. Garmin does not provide access to a value somewhere for battery percentage, so I gave up.

I understand the production of the new Garmin field. This is a field useable for multiple battery systems like Sram and the new Garmin 12 speed systems. But cramming much information into one field is not good for many of us (everything becomes too small). It should have been a new field as an addtition to the old one, instead of ruining something that worked.

Hopefully we get our old battery field back or someone with more programming skills than me can make a CIQ field.

  • Hi, you can't (easily) do it trough ANT, but trough BLE it's very easy.

  • Hi sirfive and Jarod46,

am facing the same problem and have nu clue how to get it undone.

@Jarod46, can you please explain your workaround as it doesn't ring a bell for me.

But okay, im not so experienced at all.

Please help me to get rif of the new wheel and battery and restore the numerical percentage.

    Thanks a lot!

Garmin remains silent to this althougt I have requested to arrange a restore or to let users choose between the both.

  • Hi, my answer was for someone who want develop a Connect IQ Data field with Di2 battery like sirfive.

  • This isn't possible on bikes using SC-E8000 display.

  • I'm curious why, it's because there is two batteries, something like that ? Maybe the information is just in another bluetooth ble characteristic.

  • Because SC-E8000 has a kind of bad Shimano firmware. Battery information is not avaible on BT. Anyway, SC-E8000 is not compatible with anything. It seems that it lacks ANT+ hardware. And you can't use EW-EN100 to solve this, because they are incompatible.

  • Thank you @Jarod46, you are right, the Bluetooth way could be an option.

However, I just noticed that Garmin has a (beta) update firmware version for the 1030 Plus that shows the percentage for those with 1 battery, just what I wanted to create. If the beta is well accepted, I think the 1030 firmware will follow. Of course that is much better than a CIQ datafield!

  • This seems to be true only for Edge 1030 PLUS, I think. Hope this change will be in next 1030 firmware version.

  • Same here, SC-E8000 Display, the graphical bar is equally useless as the bars on the display!
