[RANT] 12.20 Route calculation error or stuck at 39% -> Still not fixed?

It's been more than two months now since Garmin support confirmed routing issues leading to crashes with the 12.20 firmware (and introduced after 11.10) were being investigated.

The issue results in a loop of "Route calculation error" messages, or the device to get stuck at "39%" during route calculation.

When can we expect an update?

This means we spent the whole summer with a bug essentially preventing routing on long distance routes.
I am outraged that this did not get addressed earlier (or workaround published), as it has been a blocking issue for those competing in ultra cycling events.

For several years now, most of us have the habit of carrying _two_ Garmin units, so that one can take over when the other crashes.

And this is not only the Edge units. A number of Tor des Géants 2021 runners wearing Garmin 6X watches suffered from repetitive device crashes during the race, requiring a 5 min long reboot and significant battery drain in the process.

I followed Garmin through dark times (Garmin Epix ?) for 15+ years but this has reached the point of insanity.
Beside poor or no communication (and, will this post be allowed?), great hardware with terrible software yields not only frustration and stress, but also to the feeling you can never rely on Garmin during mountain adventures or races.

I have learnt years ago to never ever buy the latest Garmin top-of-the-range products as they need at least a year for the software to be actually usable, and to never upgrade the software prior to any important event.
I still love the hardware and features, and but now I am closely monitoring competing products to at least get the stability and reliability I expect and crucially need.
