I'm not far enough along with the 1030 to know whether this is the same as other mavigation failures I read about here.

I created a course using connect.garmin.com, and got it via IQ to my 1030. Looked good there. I selected it, pressed the RIDE button on screen, then the physical ride button. (Earlier experience told me that just the screen button doesn't actually start the ride.) I never got a prompt of any kind. I thought I was following the course by watching the map -- my course seemed to be a darker blue -- but then I took a wrong turn and nothing ever happened. (I also had recalc set to never.) In this case I knew where I was, but obviously I can't yet count on the device.

Does this sound like I failed to process some step of the procedure?

Thanks, and it may be a few days before I follow up ... leaving on a long weekend tour tomorrow.

  • You have done it correctly but the course should not be showing as a darker blue. It should be magenta. A color similar to purple. A message should come up at the top of the screen saying calculating when you press Ride. Also, you may not have turn guidance turned on which will show a close up of a upcoming turn. This option is available when you select Saved courses and press the lower right icon which is three vertical dashes. Also known as a hamburger icon.
