Recovery time resets from 72 hours to zero overnight

Hi,

On two occassions, I've had my recovery time on my garmin edge 1030 drop from 3 days to zero overnight. After doing an intense ride on saturday, garmin recovery time was 72 hours. However, after one night of sleep it was back to zero telling me I could start training again. This obviously doesn't make sense and is frustrating to say the least.

Before the last updates (12.20) i've never had this happen before. Is this a bug?

The only thing that has changed is that I've recently started using a garmin venu 2 watch as a 24/7 activity tracker (not starting an activity on it when cycling). The watch also syncs with garmin connect and I have physio true up enabled on it. I can't image why, but perhaps this messes up my recovery time? The only activities that I've registered with the venu 2 so far, are doing some short walks.

Hope someone can help and shed some light on this annoying matter.

Thanks in advance!

P.s.: I've been using the edge 1030 for a couple years now and everything is set up as it should (FTP, heart rate zones, etc.)

  • Do you make sure you sync your Edge 1030 before you ride so all Physio TrueUp data is updated?  The data will be messed up if you don't do that before you start your ride.

I always look at the training load on my FR945 and Edge 1030 and make sure they are the same before I start my ride. Venu 2 doesn't have training load so I guess you can instead look at the recovery time.

  • I always assumed that whenever I switched my edge 1030 on, it automatically synced via WIFI (always in range of my house when I turn it on) or via the connection with my phone. I actually think it does (just tried it a second ago).

And because the venu 2 doesn't have training load / effect (which is a shame on a watch that supports so much sport activities), the activities that I register with the watch shouldn't interfere with the recovery time on my edge 1030 right? Or do you believe / know the venu 2 does affect the recovery time stats?

I can't find any stats on the watch itself regarding recovery time and garmin connect doesn't show it either.

  • It syncs automatically, but it takes some time.

Venu 2 doesn't seem to have recovery time. Maybe there is some other values from the Venu that affects recovery time. There might be an issue with using another device that doesn't have those functions since your recovery time and training load will not be correct. If you run a lot with the Venu your recovery time would be a lot higher than displayed on the Edge.

I would start by just letting the Edge sync a few minutes before each activity and see if that has any affect on the recovery time.

  • I'll give it a go and see if it works and I'll report back here in a few days.

    Thanks for your suggestions!
