Garmin 1030 doesn’t stay connected to iPhone

My boyfriend crashed yesterday and the incident detection text is what made me able to get to him quickly.

Now I really want to fix the connection between my Garmin 1030(Bontrager) and my iPhone 8+. It used to stay connected all the time and I would receive texts and all(2y ago approx). Now I need to restart the computer to sync it to my phone, texts don’t show up, it disconnects when I’m riding - which means incident detection won’t work.

I tried deleting the Bluetooth connection and pairing again, deleting and reinstalling the app, Garmin and iPhone up to date. The computer stays connected to my PM the whole ride, the Bluetooth on my phone stays connected to my earphones the whole ride.

any insights? Should I call Garmin and complain? It’s a basic feature and I want it to work flawlessly.

  • There have been several posts on this forum that describe in detail a procedure to go through if there is a problem with the connection and Garmin has instructions on their website.

I previously had a Iphone 6 and did not have any problems maintaining the bluetooth connections. I now have a Iphone 12 and it also has no issues with the two bluetooth connections. There must be a setting on your Iphone that needs to be changed.

I turned the incident detection feature off on mine because it was far too sensitive and would activate if stopping suddenly. I've used the RoadID app which I think works much better for incident detection.

  • Except the incident detection works fine for my boyfriend - there was only one mistake during a quick brake 1y ago which is easy to just stop, and he rides 10 000km a year on his TT.

What settings would allow my phone to connect most of the time, but disconnects on and off during a ride? a setting would be if the phone never connects.

Not helpful, please don’t reply to posts if you have nothing to say.

  • I'm sorry if my suggestion to go to the Garmin site and use their connection problem section was not helpful. A simple search of this forum for connection problems I thought would be helpful too. Won't happen again.
