V12 Crashes Garmin 1030 at the startup

Hello!

Today to my regret I upgraded my Garmin Edge 1030 to version 12 of software. And from now on I cannot even turn on the device. People in nearby topics sat they have crashes when calculating the route, but I have a crash at the startuop as I turn on my device! I simply can not use it now!

How can I revert to v11? Please, help.

  • If you want to go back to the previous version, download any new beta, e.g. the last one: www8.garmin.com/.../download_details.jsp extract the GUPDATE_1110.GCD file from the zip file, rename it to GUPDATE.GCD , put the file in the Edge 1030 \ Garmin folder, disconnect from PC and start Edge.
After launching you will receive a message "do you want to install older software, it will restore factory settings" (or something like that), if you do not have a backup (certainly not), after rebooting after installation use the wizard and download device settings from your account , this should restore both user settings and device settings, including screen configurations (possibly without IQ fields).

Alternatively, before restoring the old FW, I recommend that you simply reset the Edge to factory values (full) and download the configuration with the wizard. Perhaps you have some configuration issues that the new software has not dealt with. After the reset and restoration of the configuration with connect, the device may work properly - it works for me and I am not complaining.

  • The problem is that I simply cannot even drop giles to it. It starts up, I'm waiting for the drives to come up in Windows Explorer but they do not appear, the device shuts down immediately.

Nor I can reset to factory vavlues, because as I see the screen with menu it shuts down within 1 sec.

This is definetly badass situation, I cannot do anything, I bought the device and the software made a brick from the computer.

  • How to enter mass storage mode: hold LAP on the device turned off, connect the cable, wait for the signal, after approx. 10 seconds the Edge memory should be available on the PC.

Master reset (with erase) of rather all (or at least newer) edges:

    Turn off the edge
Press and hold Lap and Start / Stop
While holding the above buttons turn on the edge
Keep holding the buttons until the text garmin disappears from the screen (the so-called "splash screen")

If you have micro sd card inserted, especially with "alternative" maps... remove it..

    It worked for me...

  • SD cards have always been causing issues on many platforms. 10 years ago Apple decided to ban them from their devices and for sound technical reasons (not the marking bs some people think it was). The 1030 has 16GB built-in so there is no need for an SD card even if you install other maps.
