How awful a job is it to replace the battery in the 1030?

Reasonably adept, I did the same to my garmin 800. The battery on my 1030 is getting pretty tired at this point, and the amount of sensors and lights means the 1030 only lasts a couple of hours with the screen backlight on. Has anyone who has tackled this like to comment?

I’m all for a bit of engineering advancement but with battery replacement services available I’m wondering if it’s worth the effort. Can’t vouch for this company but they turned up in a Google search

As I see it, the biggest problem is ensuring a good seal between the screen and case when re-assembling the screen and the case, so that water won't get inside when riding in the rain. I've replaced batteries in 1000s and 800s, and because they are held together with Torx screws and use a rubber gasket, getting them waterproof on re-assembly is easy. Not so much with the 1030.

Did a battery change on Edge 810. Very easy. Bought the kit from Amazon.

I've replaced batteries in 800s and 1000s, but the disassembly and reassembly is pretty easy on those because they're held together with screws and use a gasket to waterproof the join between the top and back. With the 1030, getting it back together waterproof is going to be more of a problem, as garmin have gone out of their way to make it more difficult. The batteries in my 1030 have certainly lost capacity compared to when the unit was new, but I'd have to buy a heatgun to get the case apart and then figure out what adhesive to use to put it back together, with no guarantee of a waterproof join. If the battery in it dies, I'll go back to my old 1000 - I'm not going to buy the 1030+, which has the same physical design as the 1030.

Hopefully the right to repair legislation passed by bodies such as the EU Parliament will give Garmin a kick up the *** when it comes to the ease of repair of future products.
