Varia BT warnings through headphones

Doesnt seem to be an option for the Edge1030 but possible with wearables? Seems like this would be doable with firmware as other audio warnings play through headphones, just not the most important one??!! Sorry just a rant. Looks like if you really want this feature your forced to buy a watch to use with your edge....

  • The earphone option requires you to run the varia app on your phone. I have my varia connected to 1030 and also to my mobile I get audio notifications on both 1030 and from phone via the headphones.

  • You will need to the newer RTL515 model to do this as it supports ANT and BLE. The prior models only support ANT.

  • I have the 515 and an edge 1030. The 1030 will not allow notifications from the 515 through BT. Super annoying for the money you pay for the two. The edge will do other notifications through the headphones, just not their radar. So its possible but I would guess they are going to release this with the next round of Edge products to help sales.

  • I know, and if you ride for more than 4 hours or so, with music and radar, it kills the phone which I would rather not do in case of an emergency. Garmin needs to add this option in a firmware update. Its ridiculous other notifications are possible but not this one. Also, being able to do it with a wearable and not their flagship Edge is unacceptable imo.

  • If you want the beeps over the phone then you pair the RTL515 using ANT to the Edge to get the radar overlay and to the phone app using BLE.

  • Yes I know, if you read the post you would see the problem. Garmin offers the audio prompts with the phone app and the wearables but NOT with their Edge computers. Oddly its a cycling product that doesnt have all the features offered on their cycling computers. It makes no sense.

  • I find it unbelievable that anyone would want to further diminish their situational awareness by wearing headphones and listening to music whilst riding a bike. In most countries it is unlawful to wear ear gear whilst driving a motor vehicle. Cyclists are already at a disadvantage with all those crazy drivers out there so why join them by acting in an irresponsible way.

no manufacturer will ever subscribe to such a thing ever being implemented firstly it’s common sense and secondly for fear of litigation

  • Not sure you read the thread? You clearly haven't used the product. They allready offer this  option as I and others have posted. So they, and I, " subscribe " to this. Its the safest thing I have ever used. I am only asking they add the bluetooth warnings, like they do with navigation warnings, heart rate warnings, power warings etc,  option to the Edge like it is with the phone app and the wearables.

You argue that you can hear cars better than a radar that picks them up several HUNDRED yards behind you? And alerts you with an audible beeping, then shows the cars on the screen , and their position to you up until the point of passing you? All without having to take your eyes off the road in front of you? Lol OK.  Sorry but there couldn't be anything "safer".  You ears aren't as good as this product. But thanks for your scolding.

  • Yesterday when i started my ride, and for some reasons my Edge1030 had 2% battery, so i switched to my Marq. The radar beep of the watch is sooo low that i cant hear it. Then i wished an headphone beep.
