Is there a way to disable the large “save” screen, or prevent it from being a Touch input?

I keep accidentally touching the screen, and saving my ride when it is stopped. It seems bizarre that the start/stop is a physical button press, but barely touching the screen saves it. I’ve been using the 1030 for a few months now, and I think there are more rides that this has happened than not - I’ve gotten really good at combining files so that I can see the whole ride as one, but it’s driving me crazy!

Any way to disable this, or at the very least, make that giant “save” button smaller?

  • If you press the stop/pause button only for a brake, simply touch the „return arrow“ left bottom on the screen immediately after.
(Don’t forget to press start button when resuming the ride!)

Or: For short brakes use „Auto Function“ - „Autopause“

  • Another tip is to put the Edge in Sleep when you are stopped. I guess you accidently touch Save when you remove the Edge from the bike to bring it with you.

Stop the ride and then hold the power button until you see Sleep and Power off. You can also use Power off but it will take a bit longer to start it again. Then back on the bike you press the power button again and resume your ride.

  • Oh, great tip! I tried that on my ride this afternoon (hitting “back”) and it’s a good workaround! Granted, I still have to remember to carefully do it, but it seems much easier to remember right when I pause, vs “careful don’t touch the screen”. Slight smile thanks for the tip!

  • Somehow, I’m pressing it mid-ride! I use the 1030 when on my gravel bike, so it’s usually things like... stopping to eat a snack, or stopping while I navigate around a forest road gate, or the something. I’m honesty not sure how I’m touching it, I must be brushing my finger on the screen as I grab the bike, or even as I reach down to press the “start” button again!

For longer breaks, the sleep option sounds good though, so I will keep that in mind! Thanks!

  • Have you tested if it works better if you lower the touch sensitivity?

  • One way to minimise error pressing the ‘save ride’ On Screen button is to enable the lock screen ‘feature’.

I say ‘feature’ because it is a bit cryptic in its implementation.

This is how I use the Lock Screen when I choose to occasionally …

AFTER you have started a Ride recording (ie Ride is in progress)  AND your device is displaying a DATA screen, you can ‘short press’ the physical power on/off button (left side button)… you will see msg ‘Touchscreen Locked’ at top of screen.

Curiously, once screen is locked you can still swipe left/right to move between DATA screens, but you can’t tap the screen to trigger an action.

When screen is locked you can still press the physical start/stop activity button (bottom right), and it will still show the On Screen Save Ride / Discard button, but you will not be able to action (tap) this until you unlock the screen.

Just short press the left Power on/off  at any time to toggle the touchscreen lock/unlock.  :)

I have found this ‘feature’ very useful in the RAIN when touchscreen sensitivity issues caused the screen to keep mysteriously changing around. Also when it is super hot and a drop of hard earned sweat launches itself from my forehead and aims at an on screen button. :(

    Hope this helps
