Garmin Edge 1030 battery indicator and/or charging problem

My 2 months old Garmin Edge 1030 battery and indicator worked fine until last month.  I had it fully charge (indicated by 100%) but after 3 hour ride it went down to 9% and wanted to go to sleep mode.  I tried to charge it over night but then in the morning it only say 25%.  It reads 100% after turned the unit off and back on.  I then plug in the charge cable it says charging at 25%.  This is very frustrating!  I saw some one in the forum suggested to recalibrate the battery charging status by fully discharge it to 0% then charge it back to 100%. Anyone have a similar or have any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Daniel

  • Hi there. I am having the exact same issue. Has anyone been able to figure this out for you?

  • You forget to mention you have to do a hard reset of the device immediately after the full discharge. This forces the calibration of the zero-charge level. Successively let the unit at the charger for at least 6 hours - don't stop charging at the initial 100% charge level. This is to re-learn the 100% level. Cured an Edge 820 having the same flaw with this procedure.

  • Have the same exact problem. Supposed it might be the software updates that caused it?

  • That's possible, but more important is if the procedure to reset the battery level indicator as described above does solve your problem.

  • Yep. Now trying ti drain the battery and etc…. Hope it solves the issue.

  • Because my 1030 is still under warrantee.  Garmin support replaced a new unit after one hour they tried to help me.  Garmin recommend to only charge the device with provided Garmin USB cable.

  • I have been charging it for 2 years plus minus with both garmin and non garmin cables. All was good until the latest firmware update. I do not think cables will impact otherwise within the first few days i had the unit, symptoms would have appeared back then.

  • Since installing the new beta (11.19) on my Edge 1030, my unit mysteriously "recharges" itself after a ride, without being plugged in! For example, starting fully charged, it might go down to 85% after a ride. I turn it off and, coming back to it the next day, it's mysteriously back to 97%! Wonderful, were it true, but I imagine this is a calibration error introduced by the beta. I've separately reported my experience directly to Garmin.
