Is it possible to Connect my Edge 1030 to my Tacx Flux, if it also connected to the Tacx app?

Is it possible to Connect my Edge 1030 to my Tacx Flux, if it also connected to the Tacx app?

I like to use the Tacx cloud app for training programms and the movies, but my Edge shows much more useful stats while I’m cycling. Like time in heart rate zones etc.

  • ANT+ sensors can be paired to multiple receivers.

    BT is one to one.

    What is the Tax using?

  • I have a Tacx NEO in use - but with FLUX - I assume - it‘s the same:

-connect your FLUX to the Tacx Desctop App (from within the app - usually via BT)
-connect your FLUX as bike sensors (speed+cadence, power) as normal ANT+ sensors to your Edge

    That‘s it!

Manipulate wheel circumference of speedsensor to correspond with TDA speed.

  • Hi,

I tried this today. I did get the connection, but there was one strange thing: the desktop app didn't give feedback to the Flux anymore. So when there was a climb, I did not feel more resistance (while I did see my speed drop during the climb).

When I broke the connection with the Edge, the Flux immediately reacted and it was at is is supposed to be. It looked like the Edge was controlling the resistance instead of the Desktop app?

And what do you mean by: Manipulate wheel circumference of speedsensor to correspond with TDA speed?

    Thanks again!

  • My limited trials so far with Edge 1030 plus and Flux 2: If you add the speed, cadence and power sensors from your trainer you can use Tacx software on another device. If you add your trainer as a trainer it tries to control the trainer and "fights" the Tacx software. Power, BPM from a chest strap and cadence rate look correct. Speed is not the same as displayed by Tacx, from which I concluded that the nominal wheel size of the trainer is not what the Edge expects. However I think the error can be in either direction which would need a different explanation. More research needed.

I had no success so far with calories, gradient or distance traveled

  • BT is one to one.

Generally true ... but some devices now support multiple connections.

IDK if Tacx trainers support multiple connections.

  • See https://tacx.com/product/flux-2-smart/

I can watch the tacx films on my android phone, using BT, and get the data on my Edge, just as the page describes. I think the Edge is using ANT+ then to connect to the sensors within the Flux. However not all the data are correct and I am working on that.

Connecting the Edge to the Flux as a trainer, as opposed to just the sensors, does not play nicely with the Tacx software. Perhaps that is not surprising as both are trying to control the trainer, but the Edge interface for that is clumsy. If you have 2 "indoor" profiles, it is not possible to have one connected to the trainer and the other not. Surely that is an error?

  • As you have already correctly recognized:
if you use the Tacx Desctop app (PC/Mac) or the Tacx Training app (tablet), the Edge must not be connected to the Flux as a trainer, but simply as sensors.
The Edge then receives the values Speed, Cadence and Power from the Flux.
While Speed and Power are completely identical to the data you see in the Tacx app, Speed - and therefore Distance - does not match the data in the Tacx app.
These two values can not be adjusted 100% to the app values, because the Tacx app manipulates the "raw speed" from the Flux into a "virtual speed" by software.
However, you can manually change the value under "Speed sensor" - "Info" - "Wheel circumference" until a reasonably satisfactory result is achieved.

(the steeper the hill the slower is "virtual speed" in comparisation to Edge's "raw speed")
