Lost Satellites Constant Message - Edge 1030

Hi All

Hoping for some help as i cannot seem to resolve this no matter what i try. The Edge 1030 takes a lot, lot longer to acquire satellites than any Garmin ive had (800, 810 and 1000) most times in excess of 5 mins all from the same place in my garden where all the others have worked without fail in seconds, not minutes.  But when i do eventually get a fix, within seconds it shows Lost Satellites but the GPS icon is still green.  It then acquires it quickly again, i think, but this just continues constantly throughout my ride, multiple times in clear air.  Its driving me mad.  The rides do show random straight lines which i assume is where the GPS is lost.

Ive read posts from this forum detailing removing the file that gmaptz.img and EPO file then resyncing with Garmin Express.  The files do get recreated but it makes no difference its the same issue.

Ive tried using all GPS 3 modes, GPS Only, GPS+GLONASS and GPS+GALILEO and its the same issue.

Ive reset the device to facory and still it does it.  I think this must have a dodgy GPS chip or something.

My GPS version is showing as 2.50 in System - About - Copyright Info. but i have no idea if this is current...system version is up to date V11.00.  Can someone let me know what GPS version their unit is on (one that works without my issue).

I did read a post that said to also remove the files in RemoteSW folder but ive removed this (backed up) and it never gets recreated.

Im going to open a ticket with Garmin tomorrow but throwing this out there just in case someone can offer something else to try.

Heres Hoping

  • My 1030 shows the GPS version is 2.50. Have you viewed the detailed satellite screen to see if how many satellites your unit is connecting to?

  • My GPS version is the same as yours 2.50, i even tried the beta software that i found on this forum but the same issue that moved it to 2.51  Thanks for verifiying.  ive been in touch with Garmin and they said on the info provided it seems like a hardware fault so want me to return it to them.  Based on others here with the same issue, those that had them replaced got it resolved with a replacement unit.  Maybe they have a bad batch or something with this issue.  No matter what i tried it keeps doing it.  Strange thing is its only for a short few seconds and then it locks on again so my ride doesnt look too bad.  But its not what you pay £450+ for...it needs to work as it should.  My edge 1000 is 5 years old and never missed a beat.

  • First, I'm sorry you ran into this issue. It is less common, but it sounds like you may need a replacement device. We can generally resolve these types of issues remotely, but you've knocked out a lot of troubleshooting already.

Have you heard anything back when reaching out to our Support team through the traditional channel?

  • Hi Blake,

Yes they sent me a mail after talking to them on the phone, asking for proof of purchase which i had to ask an ex for (awkward!). i mailed that back yesterday monring but as yet they have not respnded, now next day evening for me, so im waiting for them to confirm i can send it back for replacement, its less than 2 years old.

Hopefully they will get back soon as i now need to use my phone to record my rides which is not ideal.  Ticket number is 18614404K0 if you are able to move it along?

    Thanks

  • I'm sorry to hear about the ex interaction, but I'm glad you got proof of purchase.

We are currently working through some backlog of support contacts, but you will definitely have a response this week.
