Seeing downloaded route maps on the Connect App

Hi there. I have downloaded some "nearby Courses" from my PC on the Garmin Connect app. These show on my edge device but I can't see them on my Connect app. I would like to be able to see what I have downloaded on the PC as it's helpful to view the routes at a larger scale. Any advice on this will be appreciated.

  • Very confusing the way you describe things so I can only guess. On the PC garmin has the Connect Express application. On the phone there is Connect Mobile App. Then there is the Connect Website. These are three different Connect things - Express. Mobile and Web.

So from what you say I guess you download some GPX files and used you PC to transfer them to the Edge using a cable. You don't even need Connect Express for that, you can just copy the files to the Garmin\NewFiles folder. And I assume those are now on the Edge.

Now Connect Mobile and Connect Website shows what is in your account, not what is on the device. That's how they work. The truth is in the cloud. You will not be able to sync back from the device to you account (cloud).

What you could have done is this and it does not even require to plug the Edge into the computer.

Step 1. Download your GPX you want on the computer but do not copy to the Edge, don't even connect it

Step 2: Open Connect Website/ go to Courses/. Then select Import (small text link) and follow the instructions to import the GPX into your garmin account. Once completed the course will be in your Connect Website account.

Step 3: If you open Garmin Mobile on your phone the newly imported course will now show there as well.

Step 4. Transfer from the phone to the Edge using Connect Mobile App via BlueTooth.

Personally this is the workflow I use. Added benefit is that the course remains in my account. I can delete it from the Edge and transfer it back later if I want to. I can also then edit the course in the Connect Website.

Alternatively there is a way to do all that on the iPhone since you can import the GPX into Garmin Mobile. If you download the GPX in Safari on  your phone (don't ask me about Android, don't know don't care...), open the share sheet and there should be a Garmin Mobile option to share to. Doing so will trigger the import of the GPX into your account, from the mobile app.

    Happy hollidays !

  • Hi Martin868

Many thanks for taking the time to respond and apologies for any confusion caused.

What I have been doing is opening the Garmin Connect desktop app on my PC, navigating to "courses" on the side menu, clicking on "nearby courses" with my postcode noted in the location tab, then connecting my edge device using a cable. Then "send to device" and then syncing via Garmin Connect. The course then shows up when I navigate to saved courses on my edge device, What I want to be able to do is to be able to view the route map of the saved course on my PC.
Hopefully this Is a better explanation of my problem.

    Kind regards

    Peter

  • I'm not understanding your question either. You can view the course in Garmin Connect on the web and also on the phone Connect app. Have you looked at the training section of Connect which is where the courses are located?

  • Since I usually go another way to get courses, I just tested the way you described above:

Garmin Connect Web - nearby courses - chose one - send to device:
Garmin Express opens automatically and syncs the course to the connected device.
The course_fit file will be stored in NewFiles and after reboot of the device the course is visible and chosable on the device.

The course was not stored under "my courses" in Garmin Connect. So, no way to see the course here!

It's also not possible to import the course from the device to Connect, because only GPX and TCX format is allowed for import.

The simplest way to see and edit the course is to open it in Garmin Basecamp: there you can load course_fit files from the device and check it.
If you don't work with Basecamp, it's not so easy for beginners...

    What you can do is:
Look up a nearby course in Garmin Connect - as you did.
Before send it to your device, click on the name and you can see the course in details. If you like it - star it as favorite! You will find it later under "favorites". And then finally send it to the device!

  • Perfect!

Exactly what I require. Clicking on favourites saves it on Garmin Connect on my PC and I can view the route in large detail.

Many thanks to everyone for their help.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy Christmas to all forum users.

  • Now I get your question. Yes adding it to favorites will make it show on your list. If you want to actually have it in your account you make a copy and they you can unfavourite it and it will remain in your long list..
