edge 1030 + indoor trainer + powermeter pedals = desaster

I use the edge to record my activites and I also have a indoor trainer paired to it. Structured Workouts via ERG mode have been working fine.

However, to be able to get power readings when riding outdoors I've bought Assioma Duo powermeter pedals which are working fine as well.

But since then, when both the assioma and indoor trainer are active, trouble starts. structured workouts using ERG mode are not beeing set properly, it seems that the powermeter pedals somehow interfere. If i set it to e.g. target power 200w, it sets it, but when pedaling it's not able to maintain this power value. ist going beyond and below that but it#s not able to hold it.

The only thing to cure this behavior is to disable the Assioma under the System -> Sensors. Doing so, indoor trainer is working finde again, but then I don't get the Cycling Dynamics provided by the Assioma pedals.

Has someone figured out how to set this up so that structured workouts are now working again using powermeters in addition?

  • What is your trainer for this, what smart trainer do you use with ERG mode ? Also normally a smart trainer has it's own built-in power meter and you should try using that one instead of your pedals when doing that activity. I suspect your pedals and the smart trainer give different readings and you are fighting because on the edge you do not see the value the trainer actually uses (it uses it's own all the time, ERG mode runs on the trainer not the Edge). Basically you are looking at the number that is not what the trainer uses and if they differ you keep over-compensating in your pedalling the this is an unstable feedback look, if you have basic physics notions. Anyhow, do not use the the pedal in INDOOR mode, use the smart trainer power. Give that a shot.

  • That is the solution I already have, as soon as I disable powermeter pedals on edge while riding in ERG mode on indoor trainer it's working.

I can setup the trainer to use the power info from assioma, this is working, but the erg mode is not steady, its variiing, because assioma don't send static values (which is obvious)

  • Good you have your answer. You should use the power from the trainer, not the pedals. Don't try to make it work with the pedals, is it not useful and not advisable either. The pedals power meter is for outdoor use.

  • I use Assioma Duo and Tacx Neo 2T to train indoor. And Neo has different power readings than the pedals.

I use TrainerRoad or Tacx app and select power match from Assioma to Neo and everything works fine. When I use only the trainer to read and set the power,  the move is not so easy and rapid adjusted like when I use it with the Assioma.
