Screen changing randomly when riding outside in wet conditions.

On my last two outdoor rides, when the screen gets wet, it starts to randomly change to other pages or get stuck. This is beginning to ruin my rides and not what I would expect from an expensive piece of kit! Any thoughts of how to fix would be really appreciated, thanks.

  • Just press on/off button to freeze the screen

  • What is your setting for the touch sensitivity? Updating Your Activity Profile

Use the screen lock: Locking the Touchscreen

  • I have reset it to low

  • I will do that next time I’m out however that means I can’t scroll through through the screens! Not good for £300 unit!

  • With the screen locked you can still scroll pages manually or via Di2 if you have a shimano and dfly

  • Rain can trigger false touches on the screen. It is normal and not any different than any smartphone what would stand in the rain. You can lock the touch screen by pressing the power button when in an activity. You will get a notification the screen has been locked. I have a Garmin Edge Remote on my bikes. it is very handy to handle the unit with gloves without relying on touch. It is also very useful in that situation since I can lock the screen and use the remote to change the data page. The remote still operate when the screen is locked. It is really only the touch screen that is then disabled. If you often ride in the rain or with thick gloves you should get the Edge Remote, unless you have Di2 with the buttons but few people do.

  • I frequently have trouble with the 1030 screen in wet and cold weather. You're probably right in that it is performing no better than a smartphone would in similar conditions. But isn't that exactly the point?  I would have expect a device that is supposedly designed to be mounted in an exposed position in a bike and to be used in all sorts of weather to perform better than a smartphone screen in such conditions.

  • I think you’re expectation is wrong. The 530 would have no issue  ane some prefer it for that reason. The touchscreen lock feature exist precisely to deal with the issue  as it does it just fine.

  • I ride 300 days per year and maybe 2-3 rides in the rain, So I dont mind (statisticaly ) to have an issue with touch when it rains , I lock the screen and thats it

  • I had the same issue on my refurbished 1030. completely unusable in the rain, can't even lock the display on the screen that i want to watch because everything is changing to fast...

coming from an edge 1000 that worked perfectly in the same conditions, the unit is either broken or poorly designed.
