FW 11 Edge 1030 <bluetooth connection IOS 14.2>

Hi to all apple user

I was faced with a misterious bluetooth situation today .

When I switched on my device for the first time after a week

Edge 1030 (FW 11.0) reports "searching for mobile device"  (Edge mobile status = not connected)

BUT --->  iPhone was connected, incomming calls / messages were indicated on display

my iPhone bluetooth setting shows 2 connections:

BLE(Garmin) as    "connected"

BT(Garmin)    as    "not connected"

a few minutes later I started Garmin Connect App on my mobile, Edge 1030 was shown as connected at the app  and at the same time iPhone bluetooth connection

BT(Garmin) also changed status to connected.

Situation was not reproducable....

Next powering up Edge 1030 shows an immediate bluetooth connection  BLE and BT

Anybody else with similar behavior?

Who is familiar with bluetooth BLE and BT, whats the difference?

  • BT is regular high-speed BlueTooth. It is used when you sync between the phone and Edge. BLE is Bluetooth Low Energy a very slow speed variation of BT that the Edge uses when it is not syncing only paired to the phone for connected features.. Essentially when you use the Connect Mobile app and sync it is BT. When you ride the bike with the phone in range but put away in your pocket, it is BLE. The Edge absolutely both to be paired to function properly
