Workout synchronisation often does not work

Today after starting the 1030 did not show the workout for today. The 1030 was connected to my iPhone, Garmin Connect Mobile (GCM) was the only active app and showed the workout of today. I could not get the workout to the device. How to force-sync ?

1030 firmware: 11.00

GCM version: 4.37.1.5

Weekly my coach sets up the workouts for the upcoming week in TrainingPeaks. The workouts are always directly synchronised with Garmin Connect.

In GCM the workouts are shown in the Agenda/Calendar.

On the 'My Day' tab in GCM, it shows the planned workout.

I pressed the 'force sync' button top right in GCM, the 1030 says 'download complete', but the workout does not pop-up and the 'training' button on the front page does not show a '1'.

I press on the workout in GCM, then the button on the second right to force sending it to the 1030. I select the 1030. Again the 1030 says download complete, but no workout is shown.

--------

Next, I try to download the workout directly from TrainingPeaks by tapping the IQ button on the 1030 and selecting the old TrainingPeaks app.

The workout downloads and shows. I select 'Ride'. So far so good.

But the 1030 refuses to start the ride. Pressing the start button gives a different tone and nothing starts.

The 1030 does not want to turn off, I get the message that I first have to quit GCM. Nothing works.

I have to reset (long press on/off button), then manually select the downloaded workout again, then I can ride the workout.

-------

This is frustrating. I want to start the workout, but it takes 10 minutes and a whole lot of beeps to finally be able to start.

Garmin, please look at this.

  • It is the same for me, from the moment I update the sw version to 11.00

  • If you could answer the below questions, that would help out a lot in looking into this issue.

    • Have you disconnected and reconnected your Training Peaks and Garmin Connect accounts?
    • If you are recording an activity without selecting a workout, do you have any issues with it starting
    • If you load a workout created in Garmin Connect, does it have the same problem starting?
    • Have you tried a hard reset (holding power button in for up to 15 seconds)
  • Thank you Former Member

    My answers:

Have you disconnected and reconnected your Training Peaks and Garmin Connect accounts?

No, I have not. Did not have to, all workouts (and activities) are perfectly synchronized between the two.

If you are recording an activity without selecting a workout, do you have any issues with it starting

No problems, all activities including workouts work just fine. Only when I download a workout with the Trainingpeaks app directly from TrainingPeaks, then it is impossible to start an activity and you have to reset the 1030. Always. I blaim the (now unsupported) TrainingPeaks app. This app should have been deleted when not supported anymore.

If you load a workout created in Garmin Connect, does it have the same problem starting?

No. All workouts (also those from TrainingPeaks) that come automatically to the 1030 work perfectly.

My problem is that the workouts do not show on the 1030 while they DO show on my phone in the GCM app and (of course) do show on the GC website. This 'not showing' has happened now 3 times. I will see tonight if my 1030 will pick up the for the next days planned structured workouts.

Have you tried a hard reset (holding power button in for up to 15 seconds)

I did try to reset with 10 seconds (that was the only way to come out of the problem situation). I think there is no difference with 15 seconds ? But will try that tonight.

    Edit:

Just now started 1030. It flawlessly synchronised with GCM and all (future) workouts are loaded without problem.

Rest of this week the workouts will work normally as they did in the previous weeks.

It is just that some weeks the synchronisation does not go well with the new (weekly) workouts.

As soon as this happens again, I will report.

    Extra information:

    1) I always have GCM running because of the FR935 that I am wearing.

    2) I never wear the watch for training and when I start the 1030, the 935 is out of reach/range and is no longer connected to GCM.

  • I can only confirm same issue with workouts synced from TrainerRoad:

    • Calendar with a workout synced correctly from TR to Garmin account, I can see (both in the Garmin Mobile and on the web)
    • After syncing E1030 with the app, calendar is not synchronized, no entries there
    • The workout itself is synced to E1030 so at least, I can start start it manually.

Multiple restarts of E1030 and the phone didn’t help.

    Regards, Jarek

  • This week the workouts were synchronized correctly, no issues.

  • My TrainerRoad workouts aren’t syncing this week either, it synced 2 days last week but now isn’t working
