  • I experience the same issue and suspect that the file is corrupt.
I am not even allowed to copy it to the unit manually (\Garmin). It gets stuck at 98%.

I have succesfully upgraded from 9.50 --> 10.20 --> 10.26 today manually without problems. Only 11.00 is causing trouble.

  • @grumpida and

Firmware 11.00 is everything but corrupt. To upgrade from the 10.25 beta you will have to delete the Media file manually as described in the procedure posted by Garmin to update to 10.26:

The instructions below are for updating to 10.26, but they will also apply for updating to 11.00 (just replace 10.26 with 11.00).

Instructions to recover from crash (10.25):

    1. Power off your device. If it crashes, just wait until the screen is completely blank.
    2. Hold the lap key and continue to hold it as you plug it into the computer via USB.
    3. When you see the Edge has connected to the computer, you can let the lap key go.
    4. Delete the Garmin/Apps/Media folder from your device. After updating to 10.26, it will be recreated, and that is expected.
    5. Install the 10.26 software following the usual installation instructions.
  • I completed a hard reset to get past this which also worked.

  • If I cannot copy the file to the unit, there’s unfortunately no chance of me following through point 5.

I can easily do a manual upgrade with the gupdate.gcd file, as long as the software contained isn’t 11.00. Today I succesfully copied in 10.20 and 10.26 without deleting any libraries.

There’s something in the 11.00 file itself (gupdate.gcd), which Windows Explorer refuses. Perhaps this is also why Garmin’s official page is still at 10.26?
Equally, the update fails via Garmin Express (just stuck at preparing) and WiFi on the Unit (fail after validation).

  • Delete the file and run a file system check (Disk Utility/First Aid on a Mac, some odd disk check command on a Windows PC). It is not rare that the file system on the edge have a corrupted FAT. It often happen with you unplug the unit without ejecting the disk before

  • Way back in Windows 7, Microsoft added a feature called Quick Removal. What this did is allow the SD card to be pulled out without ejecting it. I have not ejected a SD card since then. I never eject the 1030. Perhaps I'm just lucky. That Quick Removal feature does need to be set to on. It is by default.

After ride today, it tried to update to 11.0, but stuck at validating at 99%

it wouldn’t previously upload my ride, but after connecting to computer with lap key pressed as above, it did upload.

however not sure how I can force a new download of 11.0
