Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Edge 1030 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Edge1030_1026Beta.zip and place the GUPDATE.gcd file in the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE_1020.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  •  The reason the new versions do not install is most probably the fault in the 10.25 beta software. Something goes wrong in the power down cycle, corrupting the file structure and preventing the USB connection and the install of a new firmware version.

Therefore we need a guideline to update with a different procedure. There is always the ‘reformat and install a chosen version’ way, but then you lose all settings. Not a disaster, but just some more work. Hopefully Garmin finds/has another way to force the update.

This is the risk we took by attending to the beta program.

Let us wait until it is ‘daytime’ in the US and the Garmin programmers start on this problem. Fortunately it is Friday and not weekend.

  • hmmm "but then you lose all settings"

This should not happen , or at least it should restore profiles screen and sensors after installation Slight smile

  • The beckup function should be around for a long time. Unfortunately, Garmin is deaf to user suggestions. Only Edge 1030+ received such an opportunity. But what can I say, as software is the weakest element in Garmin. Every time more or less there is something broken in the software.

  • There's a procedure of what to do if a crash occurs underneath the change log at the top of this beta post. Has anyone tried that?

  • yes , now, me  , I did not knew if the info is here or in Garmin site, its quite hidden

On first boot Garmin froze (i had the Wifi open) , after closing Wifi , reboot

On second boot it was ok , but took a while in boot screen

After that everything is ok , Media folder was recreated

    Instructions to recover from crash:

    1. Power off your device. If it crashes, just wait until the screen is completely blank.
    2. Hold the lap key and continue to hold it as you plug it into the computer via USB.
    3. When you see the Edge has connected to the computer, you can let the lap key go.
    4. Delete the Garmin/Apps/Media folder from your device. After updating to 10.26, it will be recreated, and that is expected.
    5. Install the 10.26 software following the usual installation instructions.
  • SUCCES !!

    Ok, the full story.

Yes, of course I tried the recovery instructions underneath the change log. However, after deleting the media directory, I put my sideloaded program on the device again at the same time, since this program is otherwise gone. This was a mistake, because I still got the problem, the device did not restart.

So, the installation instruction (from 10.25 beta !!) is:

    1) turn off device

    2) force the mass storage when attaching to usb (by press and hold the lap key, while attaching to usb)

    3) repair the drive

    4) remove the "media" directory that is under \garmin\apps

    5) do nothing else and 'safely reconnect' device, it restarts and prompts for installation, installation will succeed

    6) after the update I had to re-install the ConnectIQ 'My Bike Radar Traffic' (via Garmin Express), since it was gone. And I side-loaded my own app. Both went fine.

Thank you all, now waiting for a re-introduction of the radar all-clear tone, since I liked it from the beginning.

  • krazyeone. Thanks. According to your instructions, everything went OK. I did a backup of the fit files and then copied them to the Garmin / NewFiles folder. All data has been recovered. I installed the last trouble-free version 10.22beta.

just read .... Thank you so much. Everything works now.

  • yup , actually i have just bought the radar just a weak before

i hope that garmin will came out with something better since they are not confident in the current format

  • This is what my edge is doing too.  I have 10.25 installed.  It turns on and functions, but when I plug it into the USB port, it shuts down immediately.  I’ll try repairing the mass storage.
