Why Did my 1030 Odometer Reset

I thought I posted this an hour ago, but I guess not. Hopefully this does not end up a duplicate.

My May 2020 vintage Edge 1030 (Bontrager version) had several thousand miles of rides in the activity folder and those miles showed up in the 'Totals' History page spread across 2 bikes. While those files are all still there, suddenly my odometer reading appears to only reflect the last 10 or so days of riding. I have no idea how or what caused this.

I would really like to not encounter this again. Does anyone have an idea about what might have happened here?

Thanks.

  • I guess there is an additional question (kind of a long shot),. Is there any way to force a 'recalculation' of the odometer based on the history files in the Activities folder? That would be nice.

  • One can edit the file „totals.fit“ where odometer data is stored. No way to edit or „autoupdate“ the data on Edge itself.

One reason for „resetting“ odometer could be, that there is a limit of km/miles. If the limit is reached the value starts with zero again. I don‘t know this actual value - as far as I know it was about 42.000 km.

  • @mcminner1 thanks for the information. On looking into this I discovered that 'Totals' and 'Odometer' are not the same thing. I need to do some research as I clearly am lacking some knowledge here (like where is the odometer).

I assume the I need a .fit editor as well - suggestions on what to use?

    Thanks.

  • 1) In my oppinion „fitfile repairtool“ by Mathias Krallman is the best fit-editor. It us not for free, but worth the money (I use it).

    2) all distances including odometer (sum of all profiles) is stored in „totals.fit“ and can be edited by fitfile repairtool.
