Garmin Edge 1030

I purchased a 1030 unit 18 months ago, used it 4 times as I couldn’t download routes,  last used it in October 2020, went to use it again on 7-11-20 so left it on charge the night before as it was flat. Next morning it wouldn’t start, so I left it on charge for the morning. Lucky I was at home as I was alerted by the smell of burning to find the charging adapter was burnt out and melted. I only use official chargers so it appears the unit is insufficient and shouldn’t be on the market. DONT LEAVE THESE UNITS ON CHARGE UNATTENDED!

  • Did you get a charger with your 1030? I purchased one this year and there was no charger included. The specs states that only USB cable is included.

If the charger burnt is is more likely that it was that part that was faulty and not the Edge 1030.

You should never leave anything charging unattended due to the risk of fire. Most people do it any way including me.

The charger didn’t burn out (my bad description) it was the charging point (socket) in the 1030 that burnt out and melted the casing around this point.

  • Ok. If you are in the European Union it is covered by the legal guarantee. In any case contact Garmin support and see what they will do.
