Edge 1030

Hi, I have an Edge 1030 which keeps booting (Only gets to the splash screen).

I have managed to stop the boot loop and plug it into my PC and read the files.

The firmware is up to date.

I tried removing all files from the Activities and Segments directories.

But there is one file in the Segments directory I cannot remove, it says its invalid or too long.

Maybe this is causing a problem.

Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Is there a way to default the device to factory settings without using the system menu?

Thanks

  • Connect the Edge to your computer and use its disk repair function to repair the file system damage that is evidenced by having a file that cannot be deleted.

I can only tell you how to do that with a Mac:

    1. Connect your Edge to your Mac.
    2. Open the macOS “Disk Utility.”
    3. Select the GARMIN file system volume.
    4. Click the “First Aid” icon at the left of the 5 icons at the center top of the Disk Utility window.
    5. Wait for Disk Utility to tell you that it has completed checking and repairing.
    6. Eject the GARMIN drive.

If you have microSD card installed, you’ll see two file volumes, GARMIN and one with a name you assigned when you set it up. In this case, repair both (just to be sure).

    Thanks VeloManR,

I tried that with a PC and it successful removed a disk error but the faulty file is still there and it can't be removed.

There must be a way to wipe the disk and re-install the firmware?

  • I assume you run CHKDSK /f X:          (where X: is the Garmin's drive name)
    That's a good start.
If you can't delete the file on your Edge drive anyway, I would try to boot the PC again and then connect your Edge again.

What you can check is the attribute of the file: WIN Explorer, right click on filename, properties (last row) and then check attributes.

  • You can surely use the “erase” function, whatever it’s called.

And you can always do a full factory reset on your Edge:
