Changing courses on a ride.

When on a ride I want to follow two courses that I've loaded onto the 1030. How do I change from one course to another without having to save the first ride; I want the total day's ride mileage to be recorded as one ride. Where is the back button to go back to select the second course?

  • You can either stop the current course navigation from the controls menu or from the map screen by pressing the red 'X' then go to your navigation > courses > saved courses, load the new course & select ride.

Or you can go straight to your saved courses load the new course & select ride. You'll be notified that the new course will replace the current course so you just press the 'tick' & the new course will start.

You might be asked if you want to navigate to the start of the course, you can choose whether you want to of not.

When you begin the new course there will be a period of time where the edge will calculate the turn guidance for the course, the progress can be seen on the map screen, during this time the map won't update as you move & you probably won't get any turn prompts until the calculation completes

All can be done with the timer running

  • I've found that the map will update during calculation if you switch between the data screens back and forth. Best is to just let it calculate, but sometimes you need to get a pointer in which direction you should turn in the next crossing.

  • That's true I didn't want to confuse the chap more than I probably already did. Thanks for pointing it outThumbsup

  • Sad thing is that this works only with courses saved on the device. You cannot download new courses from Komoot or other sources in an ongoing activity!

Thanks for the help guys. I'll do a trial ride by loading up a couple of short courses near home and trying to change between them. Will report back!

  • If you have the GRouteLoader CIQ widget installed you can download courses from Connect or RideWithGPS while you are recording an activity

Trial ride successful ! had been trying to swipe sideways to get back to the home screen; didn't happen. Swiping down then right, I found the Controls menu and was able to find the next course I wanted after finishing the first. The 2nd course only took a few seconds to load up so no problem. (Is the Controls Menu mentioned in the Manual?). Thanks for your help; good to know there are experts out there, through necessity no doubt.

Now if I could only get rid of the Virtual Partner field at the bottom of the screen, but I've read that's not possible.

  • Glad it worked, Which virtual partner field are you referring to?. Do you mean the green profile on the map screen? In that case you referring to the Elevation profile & that can be turned off in the map data screen settings for the activity profile you're using

Was referring to the green band at the bottom of the map. It had a marker which moved right and left during the ride so I thought it was to do with Virtual Partner. Have turned off elevation on the map now so will see the result on my next ride. Thanks for the tip.

  • When you do this course switching, can you do it while the ride is paused?  I get the red X, and have been afraid to start poking around so as not to lose the ride.  Do you just stop, leave the ride running, end the first course, then start the other?  Then get on with the ride?  Thanks.
