Exercise load of 1 for a ~90min tempo ride

Yesterday I did a tempo ride, where I rode a few miles, did two laps of a 20km strava segment, then bimbled home. It was a good ride. 45 mins HRz3, 30 mins HRz2, 10 mins HRz4.  When I saved my ride and looked at my training status/stats I see that the Exercise Load for the ride is 1 (one).  3.8 impacting aerobic; 1.0 some anaerobic benefit.  Obviously the value of 1 is wrong, which is screwing with my training status as I had the weekend off, and I'm now in recovery, which isn't correct or true.  Any way I can get it to recompute the correct value?  Cheers.

  • Hi - did you do the recent update? I did it late last week, and while my load seems ok, my recovery times have increased dramatically.

i.e. this morning I went out and got a flat 1/3 mile out. I turned around and walked home, 10 minutes, .71 miles, average hr of 106 with a high of 125 - 20 hours recovery time. I've been getting around 16 hours recovery for a 50 mile ride so I have no idea what's going on this week.

  • We recently updated and now get ZERO for High Aerobic in the Load Focus.   I can go out and drop the hammer on segments, doing repeats of three or five minute HIIT workouts and it all gets scored as Low Aerobic.   Before the update, the same workouts would easily give me High Aerobic.  Indeed, a good 30 to 45 minute HIIT Hammerfest was always good for some High Aerobic in the Load Focus.   Now I can full gas and get no Anaerobic or High Aerobic.  It all goes to Low Aerobic instead.   Clearly something is amiss in how this gets tallied now.

  • Have you checked out your max heart rate as the Edge knows it? All the aerobic / anaerobic ratings are based on that (and your heart rate while riding, of course).

As a related example, a friend did a Zwift ride a while back and couldn’t figure out why the trainer was creating such a huge load. It turns out he’d got a 4th digit in his weight by mistake, so on climbs it was trying to simulate the load a 1,000+ pound rider would experience.

So if your max heart rate is set too high, all your efforts (as reflected in you heart rate) will be rated less.

I just checked mine. I notice there’s something called “auto detect” which I have off. If you have it on, perhaps it “auto-detected” based on some bad data from your HRM. I’ve had situations where the HRM strap clasp detached and the band move way down to my abdomen and was all cockeyed. I was getting crazy heart rate numbers when that happened. I felt fine (’cause I was), but I was starting to wonder if something was wrong with my heart. I didn’t realize what had happened until I took off my jersey after the ride.

  • FYI I have not had this reoccur, and have cycled/recorded several indoor and outdoor rides without issue.

I don't think the device has updated since.  It crashed several times after the update, but has been stable since.  Frustrating, because that reasonably hard ride scored 1 and then messed up my training status for the best part of two weeks.  I was hoping there was a way of recomputing it, or injecting a higher value...
