Transfer GPX from 1030 or iPhone to BMW Motorrad Navigator V ?

Hello,

I have a BMW Motorrad Navigator V on my motorbike, I also have a Garmin Edge 1030 for my race&mountainbike and my wife has a Zumo 395LM on her motorbike...

Now one thing I'm missing is the ability to transfer a GPX file to my Navigator V while I'm on a multiday trip without a laptop ...
for example, I'm in the middle of the French Alps and suddenly I have a couple of hours extra and I see a very nice track on routeyou.com or another platform (with my iPhone) and I cannot get this GPX-file on my Navigator V.

sending GPX files
from ... to ...
Navigator V Zumo 395LM Edge 1030 iPhone X
Navigator V
Zumo 395LM  stuk at 99%
Edge 1030
iPhone X

I can send & receive GPX files from my navigator V to my wife's Zumo 395LM. (although receiving always gets stuck on recalculating 99%, even though recalculation is off...)

I can send GPX files from my iPhone to my Edge 1030. (via Garmin Connect), I can send and reveice GPS files on my 1030 with other Garmin Edge bluetooth enabled devices.

I cannot send files from my iPhone to the Zumo or the Navigator, I cannot send files from my Edge 1030 to the Zumo or the Navigator.

My concern is : why can't Garmin devices share files amongst each other in a common way ... is this some backward bluetooth incompatibility issue ?

I could easily take my 1030 with me if it's needed to have a device in the middle... but even that doesn't work.
Any idea's or suggestions without having to buy another GPS ?

  • The Edge units use tracks (which is lots of points following every curve and turn).

Some of the other units can't use these sorts of files.

Other units can use "route" files, which have only the points (not that many of them) you want to pass through and the units calculate the routes between the points. (The Edges can't use these files.)

Websites like ridewithgps (RWGPS) basically convert a "route" to a "track" (which is what people load onto their Edges).  RWGPS can export track files and route files (one might be able to use those route files on the other non-Edge units).

While it's theoretically possible to do, I don't know of anything that will convert a track to a route.

The iPhone adds other problems (namely, iPhones don't really let you copy files to other devices, unless there's some app to do it).

(This doesn't answer your question but, hopefully, it provides some idea how this stuff works.)

  • Keep on cycling and forget the motorbike, then the issue goes away !

The commercial department maybe is the more important one ?

An external tool that probably can help.

I do not use, No Zumo, no BMW, no I-phone ;-)
According to comments in the Kurviger forum a correct working tool.
Looks complicated but probably once tuned for your particular needs is usefull.
Import track and export route with usefull combination of Via and Shape Points.
Anyway good luck and succes !

A gpx track import  with succesfull gpx route export. (No equipment for real test)
