Updating maps on Edge 1030 fails at 88 %

When I try to update the maps on my Edge 1030 with Garmin Express, it fails at 88,3% I think i have enough free storage on my computer (100 GB). Maps are currently not working at all on my Edge. Both in The Netherlands and in France a can't see any roads on my Edge.

According to the Edge the following maps are installed and activated:
INTL Standard Basemap, NR
Garmin Cycle Map EU, North East, 2020.10
Garmin DEM MapEU 2017.20
Garmin Geocode Map EU 2020.10

I tried resetting the Edge by holding the power button for 10 seconds, but it keeps failing at 88,3%. Is there anything else I can try to update the maps?

  • Do you have plenty of storage on both your computer and the Edge itself ? The new map is about 4Gb in size and the install process copies that around. You must make sure you have room for it, you Edge does not contain other map copies, and you computer have the space to handle the files.

Thank you for your response Martin. My Edge has 6,68 GB of free storage and my computer has 100 GB of free storage.

Can I just delete the current maps from my Edge and run Garmin Express again?

  • You can delete the map files from the Edge, but NOT the Basemap because Garmin Express will not restore this one.

Your actual problem is the missing Garmin Cycle Map South-West. Update Garmin Express to the latest version (7.1.3.0, Windows) and re-install the Garmin Cycle Map. Be aware that you cannot install the Garmin Cycle Map on the PC.

  • I am quite sure the .gma files are map files and will be restored by Connect Express but I don't want to make you do something wrong so confirm you can delete those. I would also find the folder where Express downloads the map files on you computer before copying them to the Edge, and delete those files so you get a fresh download. If they are corrupted you will never get anywhere. Depending if you have Windows or Mac it is different but there is a folder where Connect download stuff.

For Windows I think it is "C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads" but I use a Mac... where it is /Users/xxxxx/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/Maps

I tried a couple of things yesterday:
De-install Garmin Express and remove download history in Programdata
    Re-install Garmin Express

Deleted the maps from my Garmin Edge

    Both didn't fix the problem

Then I tried a different computer and the download and install succesfully proceeded.

Thank you both for your help!
