Edge 1020 won't connect to iphone

Garmin edge 1030 won't fully connect to iphone.  Edge has lastest version 10 and my garmin express has been uninstalled and reinstalled.  When I go through GE it will not find Edge.  It does show up on phone in bluetooth and it says it is connected when I manually select it, but in GE, the device shows up and there is an error message that says it need attention and its not fully set up.  If I connect Edge to my computer via cable, I can connect and register the device there.  My iphone is an iphone xs max and IOS is 13.6.1

  • If the connection worked correctly in the past, you can try:
Goto Settings on your iPhone, then Bluetooth. Disable the whole Bluetooth for some seconds, then enable again and see if it connects correctly.
If not, you have to go through the whole phone connection procedure.
First delete the Edge on your iPhones Bluetooth setup. There are 2 entries for your Edge. Tap on each and „forget“ the device.
Then delete the iPhone on your Edge:
Swipe down to open the setup-widget. Tap on „phone“ (beneath „sensors“). Tap on „Smartphone“. Delete the device.
Now both devices - iPhone and Edge - are clean to start a new connection.
Open Garmin Connect Mobile app on iPhone. Tap on the 3.dots right bottom. Tap on „Garmin devices“. Tap on blue field „add a device“ on bottom of the screen.
On your Edge tap on „Phone“ on the setup-widget screen. Tap on „new connection“ (or something like that).
Now the connecting procedure starts. Chose Edge 1030 on GCM on your iPhone and follow the instructions.

Note: 1) Garmin Express is not involved in that procedure. 2) do not try to connect your Edge by tapping its entry on iPhones BT-setup screen (like for othe devices like earphones or such else). That‘s not the way it works. 3) only one of the both Edge entries on BT srcreen on your iPhone shows up as „connected“ (BT low energy). The other entry shows for most of the time „disconnected“. That‘s ok. It only connects (automatically) if more data are up- or downloaded (during syncing).
