Garmin Edge 1030 Battery Draining Overnight When Turned Off

I always turn off my Edge 1030 after I download my rides. I only charge it when the power gets fairly low or before a big ride. There have been 2 instances in the last week where the power level is fairly high, like 80%, but then next time I go to use it, it is at like 10% or less.  Has anyone else seen this start happening recently?  Maybe I’m losing my mind and I didn’t really turn it off but it’s weird it happened twice in a week but never before....

  • You're not going mad, I had this and I found that if I looked carefully at the screen it hadn't shutdown fully.  I could just see the shutting down sign faintly on the screen, I resolved it by updating my software, sorry but not sure what version software caused the problem.

  • It may not be related, my 1030 has started turning itself on in the middle of the night if it's not on the charger. This is a new behavior since installing beta 9.68.

  • I had the same happen to as well. I’d recommend checking to make sure it really shut down.

  • I have been experiencing this for about a month.  I fully charge the unit after every ride.  I power down using the button then the screen prompt.  Found out today that the unit will turn itself on after I disconnect the usb cord.  There is a delay so, if you don't hear it, you find yourself with a dead unit the next day.

  • If you charge it with a wall charger and not a computer, the 1030 will not start up after disconnecting. I have not seen this behavior in other Garmins.

  • I have had the same issue also. I know for sure I always shut down the device, power off, not sleep mode. And yes, I do know when you disconnect the usb, it will turn on and I do shut it down again. Still the power drain did happen to me twice recently.

  • I believe the same happened to me as I did not remember hearing it beep after disconnecting.  It was almost a gonner yesterday as I nearly chucked it into the woods after a stop to fix a flat.  I paused the timer and turned the bike over on a patch of grass.  As I was working on the tire, I heard a beep.  When I turned the bike right-side-up, the unit had decided to enter set-up mode and was asking for a language preference.  I am pretty sure I hate this unit now.

  • were you able to fix it? happens to me 2

  • No.  I just make sure I charge it the night before using it.  It is a design flaw in my opinion.

  • I was having the same issue.  Through Garmin Connect I was able to delete all non Garmin apps, including Strava, and I seem to have eliminated the problem.  I have not reinstalled each app to see what might have been the problem, but now my Garmin Edge 1030 holds a charge, first overnight and not over a week without loosing it's initial charge.
