Identical Shutdown in last two rides.

Former Member
Former Member

The shutdowns occur at the top of a climb with the climb pro screen active.

I stopped riding and turned the thing back on. The ride info is still there so I resume the ride and stop and save at end. Viewing the ride (in Connect) shows GPS is lost from the shutdown till the end as there's a straight line from the top of the climb to the end point.

Help!

  • what FW version do you have?

If you have beta version send folder to Garmin beta team

    It's 9.50

  • I've had the exact same issue on 9.50 when following two different courses that pass the exact same point, which was a turn on the course. It was the only shutdown the entire 200Km ride (I don't know why I see only one shutdown as a success). I can only think there might be a glitch in the map data that's screwing with the edge.

I've nervously updated to 9.68b, we'll see if it still happens the next time I'm out that way

An interesting point. I've navigated from a couple of other courses, at least one more than once with no issues with earlier firmware. I don't know if Climb Pro was available then - if so I can't have had it enabled.

I'm assuming mine is a Climb Pro glitch. My plan was to turn it off next time I ride the course. I'd most probably not have used navigation either. It's a simple route of only 26 km I now know. In light of your experience I'll ride with it going.

  • ClimbPro Thinking I never thought of that you could be right. Where the crash happened was at the top of a climb with a road junction then a steep descent. So it could be a combination of the ClimbPro completing & the turn guidance popup being triggered

My scenario is similar with a turn at a junction coming up. There's even a descent - but like the climb it's plateau like - far flatter than consumer grade GPS can accurately measure. That's most likely irrelevant compared to the likelihood a coincidence is occurring that the software can't handle in it's current form.

I'm new to road riding. COVID and climate have rendered MTB inaccessible. It's my only proper exercise. At 64 knees can't handle much running. I hadn't ridden a road bike for 42 years. So far I've maxed out at 60 km. Getting the right saddle has taken a while! Oh to be able to do 200 km and get into the countryside!

Unfortunately now we're only allowed 1 hr per day (exercise) away from home within a 5 km radius. I'm in Melbourne, which is Australia's current hotspot.

Managed the same route without Climb Pro and shut down didn't occur.

    Is Garmin listening?

  • Good test it seems to point at the culprit. It might be worth raising a support request via https://support.garmin.com as these forums aren't necessarily monitored by Garmin.

I’ve just moved on to the 9.68 beta so if I experience it with that FW I'll raise it via the beta feedback route
