Bluetooth conection

Can anyone help I can not conect my garmin 1030

to my Samsung s8 via Bluetooth , I have tried everything I have read about.  It's worked fine for over a year it starts conecting then a third of the way it just loses condition very frustrating

  • I'll try to help - One Quick question  - Which firmware on the 1030?   That can play a role too. (and which version of Android is on the S8?)

Couple of quick probabilities for the issue:

    * you need to give location permission to the Connect app in current Android releases for it to have Bluetooth connectivity.

    * MOST LIKELY --->  the power saving features could be terminating Connect..  Make sure the "Optimize Battery usage" setting is off for Connect.

Something to keep in mind, the 1030's have more radio trouble than others, and the firmware bugfix list has a long slew of "fixed radio" fixes going back to the beginning. Hopefully your issue isn't in this category as some units are buggier than others.. The underlying hardware was outdated/obsolete when they did the 1030, and was fixed with the new hardware in the 830 and 1030Plus.  Based on the type of bugfixes, and recurrent issues, I think they tried to run it too hard for what the 1030 was actually capable of..

    * Also - The S8 is now at end of life, so if an issue there, there may not be any more fixes for it's radios.

Thanks for the reply the garmin firmware is 9.50 . Phone version is 8.0.0

I have tried what you have mentioned still not loading

It begins to load then just stops a third of the way through

It's just freezes at this point

  • Ahh, OK.  We could go into more diags to pinpoint, but probably the easiest thing is to uninstall Connect, go into Bluetooth devices on the phone side and remove any trace of the 1030, unpair the phone from the 1030 side, then reinstall Connect, and try to pair.

It could be a cache issue, could be some of the permissions that didn't translate well after Connect upgraded, etc etc... Ultimately that's what I did after 9.10 on the 1030 stopped agreeing with Connect (on my Note9 at the time) just to clear any potential old cruft that was conflicting.  Haven't had an issue since for that specific part.

Just been told by Garmin there is an issue there end and there should be a fix very shortly

  • Thanks.  That's good to know.  Hopefully won't lose my connection before a fix is out.  :)
