Training plans not in calendar in edge 1030 (and 800)

I choose the Grand Fondo training plan in Garmin Connect and scheduled it. All was well. I synced to garmin 1030 and garmin connect mobile. Unfortunately i used wrong start date. I went to Garmin connect and changed the start date. This  synced with mobile but not 1030. I then deleted the training plan and started again. The new plan appears in mobile connect but not on the edge 1030. Also tried a different training plan and same problem. Tried to sync with my old edge 800 and same problem. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

  • I have the 530 and I have the same issue. and garmin does not listen or give us a solution. :/

  • The problem is solved for me. After switching the device on the next day. The first week of training went into the Garmin. Over that week the next month went in and by the time ii reached the end of the month the rest was there. Not ideal but it worked. Now on to a new training plan and it went in perfectly.

For those with the same problem. Try to change name on one of the workouts, that can sometimes re-trigger the sync.

  • changing names worked for me, thanks @gringoonspeed!

  • I'm using the 1030 and there are real issues with synching the GC calendar to the device. When I set up my first training plan it looked like all the workouts were correctly synched to the 1030 and appeared in the calendar (or at least they appeared to be, but I didn't check all the dates). I needed to make some changes to some of the workouts and also re-schedule a few of the sessions. I made the changes in GC on my laptop and then used the mobile app to sync the 1030. After synching most of the future sessions disappeared from the calendar although the workouts themselves synched to the device. Occasionally I can get the calendar to update by adding dummy workout sessions and later remove them (although again removing a sessions in GC isn't always synched either so occasionally I end up with the dummy sessions still appearing in the 1030 calendar). I have also found that many of the training plan workouts have the same names even thought hey are not identical, e.g. they may for a similar type of activity but with different duration. I have gone through all the workouts and made sure that they are all using unique names and by playing around with adding and deleting dummy sessions I can occasionally get the device to show the sessions in the calendar. But it is very much hit and miss and it is a pity that there is no way to manually add or delete a workout in the calendar on the 1030 itself. It would of course be great if Garmin fixed the issue but seeing that this has now been discussed for several years both for the 800 and the 1030 it is sadly unlikely to happen any time soon, but at least manually adding the workouts would be a workaround that could help relieve a lot of frustration.

  • If garmin process the calendar events like it does with the rest (workouts, courses, etc). it is not a sync process, it has always been a transfer process. Once it is sent to the device it stays there and won't update even if you change it on the server side. That's how it works with courses and workouts anyway. To have changes pushed to the device you need to use the transfer button in connect (the two arrows that says "transfer to device" or something similar. I would not be surprised trading plans work the same way. There are advantages to doing manual transfer vs automatic syncs, but there are cons as well for sure/

  • The process I've been following is to make the changes either in GC on my laptop or on the moblle phone app and then select the "Send to Device" option. The changes should then be transferred to the device during the next sync. But while the workouts themselves do transfer they are not added to the device calendar or it may even remove entries that haven't been changed. It's annoying that this doesn't work as when the training plan is set up in GC it actually state that the workouts can be re-scheduled as required, but clearly this functionality just isn't working as it should.

You can still do the training plan workout by manually selecting it but it doesn't automatically pop up when the device is switched on as it does with entries that are in the calendar. So there's a workaround but it's a bit of a pain as you have to identify the correct workout title (it helps if you have made sure all the workouts have unique names) and then manually select the workout that is supposed to be in the calendar and press the "Ride" button.

  • same issue: changed a training in Garmin Connect: added intervalls and changed the name; safe training; Checed change on phone (Connect App), synced several times and checked on Edge: new training can be found in "Trainings" but not in "Trainingsplan".

today: tried to sync with Garmin Express: still not in "Trainingsplan"

again made some changes in Garmin Connect with the Edge connected by USB cable: "An Gerät senden" - Garmin Express starts; after disconnecting: the pop up shows the new training.

    Conclusion: no sync without cable...

I’m changing name of the workouts. That normally triggers the sync

  • This worked for me too. Just changing one letter in a workout and the calendar re-synced.
