Garmin 1030 Calories

Just did a 205km ride, rode with another cyclist, both wearing hr monitors. On Stravs his calories are 5,000 mine are 2,000. Is this a garmin or strava issue.

  • If you are not using a power meter, the calorie numbers are just about meaningless.

  • it's very hard to calculate real calories you have burned. But normally 500-600 calories burning on cycling per hour, of course this is about which heart zones you are riding.
So it's not about km about time ;) also you may consider to check your heart rate zones at Strava and Garmin connect

literally he may go harder than you Grin

Thanks, max heart rate 166bpm, resting 55bpm. Still means that based on previous ride still only burning 275 calories per hour, so Strava or Garmin still under recording

  • My experience is when I wear a HRM the estimate is acceptable. It is even better if you have a power meter. For the Edge to compute it needs you fill your user profile with weight, fitness lever and the other fields you need to fill. On a 205km I would have got about 5000cal on my edge just like your friend got. I get 2000cal on a 80km or so road ride. So I think you have something not set right.
