Impossible to upload tracks as courses to Edge 1030 V9.5

I make tracks with Komoot or with Basecamp. Since V9.5 it is impossibte to upload these tracks as courses to the Edge 1030.  I tried it several ways:

  1. Edge 1030 connected tot computer with USB cable, and use command 'send to Edge 1030' in Basecamp. computer reports that data is succesfully sent to the Edge 1030, but nothing visible.
  2. Export track from Basecamp to GPX file, import it as a course in Garmin connect and upload it to the device. Edge 1030 connected tot my iPhone. Edge 1030 reports 'course uploaded", but nothing visible.
  3. I made a course on Komoot.com and tried to import it in the Komoot Connect IQ app on the device. The app reports a failure.

Up tot V9.5 ways 1 and 2 worked without problems. I tried way 3 because the other ways didn't work.

Anybody experiencing the same problems? Does anybody have a solution to the problem?

  • Copy the gpx files to directory \Garmin\newfiles the Edge will read the files when you (safely) disconnect the device from the computer.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it doesn't work. I copied several GPX files from several sources to \ Garmin \ newfiles. After that I disconnected the device in Windows. I started the device and looked for saved courses on the Edge 1030. The courses were not visible on the device. When I connected the device again to my computer I noticed that the GPX files were gone.

  • Make sure you have less than 100 courses on the Edge. It does not support more than that. Delete those you don't use - I always keep mine rather empty and transfer the courses I need as I go. Also the names are truncated the Edge to 16 characters or so. Make sure that part of the name is unique.

Thank you very much for your tip. To my surprise it works. I removed some routes and was then able to post new routes. I had looked at the internal memory and saw that there was still 6.6 GB. I did not know the limitation of the number of routes.

  • The limitation is not related to storage but rather the way the system is programmed. It has similar limitations to the number of saved activities (200), workouts (100), Locations (100) etc.Garmin could well scale those limitations since they haven't changed in 10 years but they don't for some reason, or no reason.
