v9.5 no more automatic upload, used to work

Since two or three rides, activities are not being automatically uploaded anymore. Version is 9.5, but it used to work before that and there also was v9.5 installed as well.

Can only sync via GCM via manual sync. Tried turning WLAN off and back on, even turning Bluetooth off/on. Phone always connects, but no auto-sync.

Any ideas?

  • Have you tried to wipe the device (default) it and start over? I had some strange stuff happen after upgrade. I wiped and reconfigured and its been ok.

  • Haven't tryed it yet, don't want to loose all my Sensors, Activity Profiles and Training Stats

  • Interesting. I recall that I've encountered this issue when my android phone was paired to the Edge unit. A few days ago, I received a GCM update via Play Store. The rides afterwards, also with paired phone got uploaded instantly without issues.

    Maybe this wasn't a v9.5 issue, but instead an issue with the Garmin Connect Mobile App?

    Will try to ride a few times without my phone to see the outcome. Still unit isn't hard resetted.

  • I was going to reply that I have had all my rides since updating to 9.5 upload as usual, so I don't think it's a firmware issue, but something in your connections.  Now you seem to have reached the same conclusion.

    I have the Garmin Connect Mobile app on my iPhone, but I don't rely on it for much except connecting the Edge and the iPhone.

    I rely on WiFi to upload.  Nearly all my rides start and end at my house.

  • Perhaps this is the solution to the issue. Hoewever, since I'm suffering from blue halo, I'm going to RMA the device. Sadly, I don't find the chart which folders have to be copied in order to backup any data from the edge. is there anybody who can post the link once again? Thank you in advance.

    <edit>
    Found the Backup Thread.

    In addition, I tried a few rides and disabled Bluetooth connection to the phone. Rides got uploaded via WiFi as well. So it really seems that this was a GCM related issue.

  • I think most of the connection issues stem from the Connect app.

    Concerning replacing your 1030 due to the blue halo, a few weeks ago I got a refurbished unit due to the blue halo. Original computer worked great. I hope you have better luck in getting your refurbished 1030 stabilized. I had to do three hard resets to get all the problems straightened out. First time I have had problems with any of the Garmins I have owned. It could be due to the 9.50 firmware update.

  • Good to know. Just in case, how do I perform a Hard Reset?

  • If it does not run stable run a file system check when it is mounted to a computer. The FAT file system is not the post reliable, especially if you disconnect the Edge without first ejecting the connection. When FAT has issues the Edge can be very weird. On a Mac you use Disk Utility and run First Aid. On Windows some command line I don't remember.
