Map disappears during navigation

Hoping someone can shed some light.

This has happened on the last 2 rides based on Strava started routes

Seems to load correctly...but shortly after starting all detail of the map disappears. I can still see a blue line of where I have been...and random purple line of where i should be going. But no streets.

Last time it happened immediately upon starting. Today, maybe 5 miles in.

Once I completed and saved the ride, I started a new ride with no navigation and no map was present. Rebooted and then it worked

Typically riding without nav the map features works fine.

Latest firmware and map version. All maps were enabled when this happened (checked during). Tried disabling and enabling without luck.

Any ideas? Not being able to use this for navigation is not fun.

I would guess corruption of the map. If you connect the edge with your computer, you can use Connect Express to force a re-install the map.

I had the same issue today. Edge 1030 navigation stopped twice in the middle of a Strava route. The entire map screen was gone, all the other stuff (data screens etc) kept working fine.

I was within return period, so ended up returning and buying the 1030+ No issues with that one.

Never figured out what was causing it. I had reinstalled the maps, reset all settings... Dunno.

Same issue here on the 1030 plus. Start route, loads 100k route. Then 75k in, the route just stops and disappears. Everything else carries on as normal. Reload the route, fine. Another random 10k in, route stops again.

I've had it where I've had to load the same route 3 times during the route. No reason for it either?

It's random as well. It's silly because I bought it for navigation purposes but having to restart the route everytime and wait for it to load is crazy.

My old wahoo loaded routes really quickly and I never had one issue with it. Went back to Garmin with this 1030 plus and it's shocking. But gutted really.

By chance, do you have any of your maps loaded on the SD card?

No. Sync'd directly. Garmin connect, Phone strava etc.

It literally happens every time I go out and put a route in.

Today had to reload the route twice after disappearing. The maps still there, its just the route disappears .

Did this ever get figured out? My 1030 map blanked out multiple times today.

Nothing for sure as it’s very random. I updated the setting on which gps system the unit accesses, no idea if that will help or not. It must not be fixable as Garmin is not responding. I talked to two different Garmin tech people and they couldn’t help.
