Update 9.50 crashed my two Edge 1030

After updating the software to version 9.50, either the GPS froze on the loading screen (first device), either it froze on the main screen (second device).

So I lost my two devices just before starting for a bike ride... I am very disappointed about this catastrophic update.

Does anyone has the same issue ?

Does anyone have a solution to fix this mess ?

  • I fully agree. Covid19 seems to be a good excuse everywhere, however do they really has resource issue due to covid or just because they fired people to save money?

  • If you were to call them on a Thursday or Friday Afternoon late in the week you will get right through with little or zero wait time.  I did that with a question on a watch about a month ago.  All of there support was working from home at the time like much of the world.   That has always been the case for me when TS Garmin product problems.  Early in the week people are learning how to set up new products and the wait is quite a while for phone support typically, but not later.

  • I was able to contact Garmin via online chat yesterday (Sunday).  They responded in under 60 seconds.  They determined that I'm having a hardware issue with my Vector 3 pedals pairing with the 1030.  I'm not sure about the other issues.  I'm pretty confident they'll get all this resolved soon.  I was impressed that they spent over an hour with me online chat.  I had to bring my bike into my office so I could have my PC, phone and 1030 all together.  I will keep you updated when I get the pedals replaced.

  • I'm working in IT Service Operation industry. I do not see how covid19 and work from home policy could impact mail/requests queue processing in practical way? That could be only just really bad management

I have had the same issue of unit freezing, power data not being recorded, GPS not locating etc since I update to 9.50.

How can I get this version so I can roll back? and how do you roll back the version

  • Download GUPDATE.GCD and copy to \GARMIN\ folder

    reboot the device

I have downgraded to 9.34 Beta today , as my Garmin refused to start  when I press Power button

  • Hi. You can get firmware 9.10 from beta package here

    https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=12819

    Follow rollback instruction.
If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE-910.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.

    By the way

Garmin support advice me to completely delete  folders - not content of folders but folders completely
    \Garmin\Activities
    \Garmin\NewFiles
    \Garmin\RemoteSW
Then disconnect and completely reboot device

I did that. Need to reboot device 3 times as it was hanging on boot. Then it started to boot normal. But I did not test Navigation functionality that leads to crash. So not know is it helps.

  • your link leads to 9.48 Beta

  • @alimarek - The 9.48 beta download has the 9.10 firmware in it as well, and provides the instructions for how to downgrade.
