How to create gravel/off road route?

It toke me some time to make Komoot to my liking :) (at that time I was using my cellphone as a gps),

now trying to make the same off road/gravel routes in Garmin Connect for the Edge 1030 (I picked up second hand in classifieds).

In my profile a Gravel Biking is selected,

in GC - Course Setup tried both the unpaved gravel cycling and mountain cycling,

no matter what I do and where I am placing the way points (I guess these shall be some sort of points)

the GC always leads me out to the asphalt. But I know that 50Km +  trail pretty well for years.

Hm, this is typical behaviour of the google maps creates routes shortest distance and fastest way, but this was a reason I chose Komoot at that time.

But even google maps is recognizing that biking trail I was creating routes with it years ago, why then GC won't do it with same effect?

Any work around?

  • OK, got it. This was a bit of work with GC. Created a 111 Km mixed gravel and asphalt route, tomorrow morning I go and try it out how the Edge behaves.

  • Just pick roads by hand. Make sure you select "Gravel/unpaved" as your route type so Connect does not always try to revert to asphalt.

Note that Komoot is now well integrated with the Edge, so you can very well create the route in Komoot and use it on the edge.
